ABSTRACT

Applying to graduate school in geology is nothing like applying to college as an undergraduate and it is a mistake to treat it this way. This talk will first discuss different career paths and salaries in the geosciences and the value of acquiring a graduate degree, followed by a review the steps in the application process including how to find programs of good academic quality and atmosphere where you fit in, how to evaluate and compare different programs, and how to prepare an effective application. Choosing the right graduate program may be one of the most important decisions you ever make – so you want to take the time necessary to find the program that is best for you and maximize your chance of being accepted.
