After graduating from SDSU and working in the oil industry for the past year, it is Brian Tillquist’s privilege to give his insight on his initial experience as a petroleum geologist working in the San Joaquin Valley. Brian will present a general overview of the oil industry in California and the San Joaquin Valley discussing such aspects as; a historic look at how the oil industry came to Bakersfield, an outline of SJV geology, and different company assets and fields in the Valley. What can be expected first year getting started with a corporate energy company, duties of a petroleum geologist working in a mature oilfield, and tools used for day to day tasks. Finally, what life in Bakersfield has to offer and ways to prepare for a career in the oil industry for students to experience the creative process and the high-tech science that is the foundation of the Energy Industry today. |
